20th Annual “Under the Lights” Tri-County Rod & Custom Car Show
Although it is a lot of unseen work to put on a show, we are proud of our success to contribute financially to Hospice care: The Hospice of the Chesapeake, Hospice of Charles County, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospice, Calvert Hospice and in areas of our community such as Angel’s Watch, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where there is a need. Additionally, we support the Baden Volunteer Fire Department, Station 36. We take pride in this work with our hobby, to make things better for others.
This is about our Tri-County Cruisers Club’s 20th Annual Rod & Custom Car Show that was held on September 20, 2019 “Under the Lights” on the property of the Baden Volunteer Fire Department’s ballfield. The weather was perfect throughout the afternoon and evening hours as the excitement built to learn who, of the 120 registered rods, would take home a plaque or a trophy or most of all, who would win Best in Show from this fundraiser for cancer and the community?
Now to get to the nitty gritty of this event! Hoods and trunks up for judging throughout the afternoon! Background music was provided by HardRock’s D.J. Service, Bob Hartman, djhardrock@djhardrock.com , whom we highly recommend except on dates that we need him! The delicious smells floated through the air from Texas Ribs of Clinton’s large food trailer, one of our many sponsors! Yummy ribs, bar-b-que, and more…..what a combination to perk-up a car show evening event!
Many thanks from the Tri-County Cruisers to the following businesses for sponsoring this year’s trophies. Our Major Sponsor was “Bath Fitters” and we are very grateful for their support for our 20th Annual Tri-County Cruisers Rod & Custom Car Show “Under the Lights”. Many thanks from the Tri-County Cruisers to Trophies by Design for donating the BEST IN SHOW TROPHY which was presented to: Jason Williams of Newburg, for his PPG Custom Blend Orange ’70 Chevy Chevelle. Jason purchased this rod from a friend about 4-years ago and then did a conversion. This ’70 Chevy Chevelle now has an LSX 454 engine and AC with its interior by Steve Holcomb Auto Custom Interiors. The car is amazing to see!
Tri-County Cruisers Rod & Custom Cruisers again this year had a guessing game for the kids. There was a large jar of Dum Dum lollypops and to win the jar and a $10 Gift Card courtesy of Roy Rogers of Waldorf, each child had to “Guess the number of lollypops in the jar”. They had fun guessing. The winner was 7-year old Lily! Eleven-year old Hayes was the second runner up and he received a smaller jar of Dum Dums and also a $10 Gift Card courtesy of Roy Rogers of Waldorf! How about that for the kids!
The Kid’s Choice for a trophy was another fun thing for the kids to do. They would take their voting card supplied by Summit Racing and be presented with an “Official Judge – Kids Choice Award Badge” to wear as they went around and picked “three” of their favorite rods and return their choices to the ballot box. From the choices noted by the children, the rod with the most votes became the winner of the ”KIDS CHOICE” trophy. Kids Choice Trophy was presented during the show awards to Joe Thomas for his ’71 Chevy El Camino.
